Many minor children are being cared for by members of their extended families. The Florida Statutes allow for an extended family member to be awarded Temporary Custody of a Minor Children without going through the more formalized and expensive guardianship process. If a family member does not have a legal document which explains their relationship to the child they are often unable to consent to the care of the child by third parties.
Having a Florida Order Granting Temporary Custody of a Minor Child by an Extended Family Member will enable that person to consent to various types of healthcare for the child, secure copies of the child’s records, held by third parties, as well as enroll the child in school and grant or withhold consent for a child to be enrolled in special school programs, among other things which provide for the best interest and care of the Florida minor child.
