If one parent dies, the other parent will remain the natural guardian over the child even if this parent remarries.
If the parents divorce the parent who has custody is the natural guardian. In circumstances where both parents are granted joint custody, they both remain the natural guardian over the child. If neither parent receives custody over the child, a guardian over the child may have to be appointed.
